26. JUSTIFICATION |
Between MP128 and 131.5, there are three locations with persistent pavement maintenance issues due to perched groundwater impacting the subgrade. The alternative that will be evaluated includes diverting the groundwater away from the subgrade. ADOT Geotechnical Services believes this can be accomplished by installing a trenched barrier in the shoulder of the northbound lanes to intercept and redirect the groundwater. In order to determine the boundaries of this proposed barrier, a subsurface investigation will also be required. The majority of the work is anticipated to occur on southbound lanes, however, some work may be needed to occur along the northbound lanes. The project will prepare a scoping document identifying/confirming the causes and will provide final design recommendations. Staff - $135k ICAP - $15K |
