| 26. JUSTIFICATION |
| The existing conduit at the intersection of SR-87 and Northern lacks capacity for new wiring and technology needs. The conduit is PVC tubing used to protect and route electrical wiring around the intersection to operate the signal indications. All underground signal wiring must be encased in conduit to protect the cables or conductors and facilitate maintenance. Difficult pulling and possible jacket skinning may occur when an attempt is made to install too many cables or conductors within a given conduit. These conduits need to be replaced to accommodate installation of new wire, cabinets, detection, and communication. In addition, new electrical service cabinet, meter pedestal, and UPS are needed. ADOT On-Call traffic signal Contract will be used to perform the work. ADOT will supply the materials. |
