Travel & Tent Trailers
A travel trailer or a tent trailer is a non-powered recreational vehicle designed as temporary living quarters for recreational, camping, or travel use.
- It is not designed for commercial or permanent residence use
- It is mounted on wheels
- A recreational vehicle that is a combination of two units may not exceed 65 feet in length
- Objects that can be removed or collapsed, such as awnings, are not measured when determining vehicle size
The following criteria is used to establish recreational travel trailer use:
- The owner verbally declares the travel trailer use at the time of application
- The travel trailer is used only as a temporary dwelling place for recreational use
Title & Registration Requirements
Travel trailers used for recreational purposes and moved on public highways must be titled and registered.
- Customers can choose a 1, 2, or 5 year registration
- Weight is NOT declared for travel or tent trailers, therefore no commercial fees will be collected
- The trailer size (length and width) must be recorded, which may be done while adding the vehicle to MAX or on the Vehicle tab during a service
- Trailer size determines when an $8.00 Registration fee is collected
- MAX automatically calculates the fees based on the trailer size information entered

Converting TV to a Mobile Home
When a travel trailer (TV) is being used as a mobile home (MH), the TV record may be changed to a mobile home record. Or a MH record into a TV trailer record.
A centralized Mobile Home Processing Unit will process this request.
